Academ’s Fury by Jim Butcher is the second book of six in the Codex of Alera series by Jim Butcher. The familiar cast of characters returns in this military fantasy novel.
Tavi is all grown up and is now a student at the Academy in the capital city of Alera Imperia. Tavi’s lack of furies is still unique and he still must rely on his wits and intelligence. Can Tavi successfully navigate the politics and intrique that swirl like whirlpools? The supporting cast of characters grows and matures alongside Tavi. There isn’t a character left behind from the first book, if you loved Amara or Fade from the first book have no fear they are here and better than ever.
The writing is strong and compelling. There is not a single word that is not necessary to the story. The politics, the challenges, the selflessness are beautifully written. I loved every word of this book. I couldn’t put it down once I picked it up, forcing DH to fend for himself for dinner one night.
Five stars out of five for being a beautifully written and engaging read.
