Vigilante by Stephen J. Cannell was an Audible listen. It is narrated by the masterful Scott Brick. It falls in the genre of police procedural.
This is my first book in the series but the eleventh book overall. It is written by the famous television producer and it reads like it was written for production on the small screen.
The book isn’t bad, but it isn’t as good as other authors in the genre. It reads like a knock-off Michael Connelly novel. The tension and character development are just missing.
Shane Scully is a homicide detective but he doesn’t read/feel like a homicide detective. Rather he reads like a soft but prickly characiture of a homicide detective. He isn’t awful as a depiction of a homicide detective but he isn’t the best example of a police procedural homicide detective either.
Two stars out of five for the story but five stars for narration. I highly doubt I will go back and read previous installments in the series.
