Alice Takes Back Wonderland by David D. Hammons was a Net Galley read. The book was published October 28, 2015 by Curiosity Quills Press.
To be honest, the book failed to keep or hold my attention. I didn’t find Alice to be likeable and the whole book was just depressing. I get what the author was trying to do, just like so many other authors, breathe life into old fairytales like Gregory Maguire. Unfortunately, this was not successful.
Alice being portrayed as a mentally ill teenager who just happens to find her way back to a wonder-less Wonderland was just depressing. Gone is her charm, gone is the magic, gone is the joy in the novel. All that is left is a befuddled Alice, victims, and tyranny. The whole novel failed on every level for me.
One star out of five for copying a genre and failing utterly to do so succesfully.
