The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George was a Net Galley read. This incredible gem was published by Crown Publishing in June 2015.
An interesting premise, a floating bookstore whose proprietor sells books based on a customers emotional needs rather than their perceived desires, becomes an emotional roller coaster about love, loss, grief, and joy. An exploration of the soul and the importance of living life as it happens.
Set in the romantic French countryside, the reader learns through Jean Perdu that love lost is love and life denied. Ironically the man who shut himself off from emotions for twenty years was “prescribing” books for his customers based on their emotional needs. Perdu finds his emotional self once again and the reader falls in love along with him.
In a year of many great novels, John Perdu and his cast of characters stands out as the emotional book of the year for me.
A very well deserved five out of five stars.
